The Story of Small Sustainable Swaps
Founded in 2020
Small Sustainable Swaps started from a desire to share my family's choices to live more sustainably and reduce our plastic use.
During the Lockdown of 2020, I found I had more time to research and increase my knowledge of living sustainably. It was exciting to discover new companies and products providing alternatives to many plastic products.
Prior to this, I had been slowly increasing my awareness of the issues surrounding our plastic use and had made some changes already.
So I started to consider further areas to make changes and began trying out alternatives. I enjoyed creating reviews of products I tried and sharing them. From this Small Sustainable Swaps was born.
Who am I?
I'm Gemma, a wife and mum of two daughters - a 7 year old and a 4 year old. We live on the south coast of England.
I enjoy cooking and baking - trying out new recipes is always good fun. During recent months, I started the couch to 5km. I am now maintaining that distance and slowly trying to increase my speed. Some runs are tough others are great and rewarding.
I have been a Primary School teacher for 15 years (wow that makes me feel old 😆) working in the same school for the last 12 years. I have been working part time for the last 3 years to help keep a work/life balance that works for our family.
This will be my last year as a teacher and I will be starting a course in Social Media when I finish. I am excited about the future and what it holds.
Having a family has led me to look more carefully at our impact on the environment especially over the last couple of years.
During the last few months I have been researching more and learning more about living more sustainably. In particular, I have been working to reduce the amount of single use plastic we use. I began posting more on Instagram and then my hubby suggested I start a blog. After some thought and more research, I started
I hope to continue learning and making changes in our daily life.
